Born: Versailles, France, 1943
Eclectic, young and with the simplicity of a school uniform, the Agnès B label has branches in London, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Amsterdam. Her first customer was actress Dominique Sandra.
In the mid-1970s, having worked as a fashion editor and assistant to designer Dorothée Bis, Agnès B designed her own collection and opened a boutique in 1976. Agnès B also designs specifically for teenagers and children, and produced a maternity collection: fitting for a woman who at 43 had four children and one grandchild. ‘I always make things I would wear,’ she told Vogue in 1986. ‘I love white, I love black, and I love finding new colours. I think people like my clothes because they can be neutral.’
