AGNÈS, Madame

Agnès hats, named after their maker, appeared regularly in Vogue in the 1920s and 1930s. She could turn her hand to the occasional incredible concoction, but mostly Madame Agnès made chic cloches, swirling felts and variations on a beret that had been popularized by Marlene Dietrich. During the 1920s millinery was a fine art which became an occupation of the chic, and Madame Agnès, photographed by Vogue in 1925 wearing a futurist dress and angular earrings – both heavily influenced by the Cubists – was a prime example
