Born: New York, New York, USA, 1955
Liza Bruce built her business on stretch fabric and quickly became known as the `Queen of Lycra', producing swimsuits of the neon-coloured variety, aerodynamic lines and cut-outs. With no formal training and a foray into the restaurant business, Bruce progressed from swimsuits into catsuits and curvy dresses. Interviewed by Vogue in 1990 she said, `Posture is central to looking youthful and, as clothes become more streamlined, good posture will become even more important.'
