With his flair for architectural shapes and clear blocks of colour, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac has always been associated with streamlined design. He formed a ready-to-wear fashion company with his mother and freelanced for various companies from Max Mara to Levi Strauss. In 1970 he launched his own label and his collections have been exhibited in Paris, Austria and Belgium. In addition, Castelbajac has designed for film and stage, including the pop group Talking Heads. In 1979 he began designing furniture and interiors. For two years he designed the collections of André Courrèges, the 1960s’ designer who epitomized futurism.
