Born: County Mayo, Ireland, 1914
A former assistant to Edward Molyneux and, briefly, Pierre Balmain, John Cavanagh opened his London salon in 1952. Vogue summed up his style with a description of his customers: ‘His clients move with the times in an establishment world: their kind of life ranges from the country weekend to jet propelled globetrotting.’ He is a member of the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers, together with London luminaries Norman Hartnell, Digby Morton and Lachasse. Cavanagh designed the wedding dresses for both the Duchess of Kent and Princess Alexandra.
