Founded by Gaby Aghion and Jacques Lanoir in 1952
The Chloé philosophy of embodying young, forward-thinking design has always been reflected by the designers in Chloé’s employ – Karl Lagerfeld, who worked at the company for almost 20 years, from 1965–83, again joining the company briefly in 1992; Martine Sitbon from 1987–91 before the appointment of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design graduate, Stella McCartney. Her appointment, almost straight out of college, prompted shouts of nepotism. McCartney has proved she can deliver: the shows have been well received, sales figures are up and the Chloé look has a new, fresh perspective.
